NACE is the National Association of Catering Executives and our Sacramento Chapter is a strong force in the Sacramento catering and event community. Our October meeting was held at the Flower Farm Inn in Loomis, California. The proprietors, John & Annie Bowler, were fabulous hosts. Fantastic food by All Seasons All Reasons Fine Catering

Our fabulous MC/DJ for the evening was Mike Regan of Mr. DJ Service. It was so much fun having Mike take the theme and run with it! Everyone enjoyed the Oktoberfest themed music and the Oktoberfest themed MC! http://www.mrdjservice.com/

The decor was inspired by the colors in a traditional German beer stein. The caramel and blue infuence was seen in the linens and flowers. The pewter was reflected in the chargers and china. Flowers by Ambience Floral Design

Courtney & Chris in Squaw Valley

Ashley and Aaron exchanged vows at the beautiful David Girard Vineyards in September. When Ashley first came to see me, she told me she loved orchids, tulips, roses and gerbera daisies. She didn't really want to see any other flowers or foliage. She just wanted those gorgeous flowers. French tulips were a favorite and they were prominent at the reception. Her colors were gorgeous! Wonderful vivid colors in shades of yellow, bright pink and coral. Thanks to Lisa Richmond Photography for these beautiful images of this very happy couple....and their flowers, of course!

Sean and Ahley exchanged vows at Granite Bay Golf Club. This is one of my favorite weddings of the year! The couple was lovely and happy! The team was a blast - Lora Ward with A Day to Remember, Jordan Photography, Carissa Jones with Sugar and Spice, Reverend Geri Murphy, Heidi Robinson of Granite Bay Golf Club, and Jordan Photography. Sean is a Firefighter and the colors of this celebration were hot, hot, hot! The love was hot, hot, hot too! They had a great reception and then road off into the night on an antique fire truck. Wonderful!! This was a truly happy and joyous couple.

The Harvest Inn - St. Helena

Becki and Craig had a gorgeous wedding at the Harvest Inn in St. Helena. We always enjoy working at this beautiful venue. The ceremony was under the trees in front of the vineyards. Cocktails were around the corner in a beautiful secluded grassy area. Dinner was back by the vineyard and dancing was inside a gorgeous candelit room. We personalize bridal bouquets all the time (grandma's rosary, photo of a loved one, etc) but let's not forget the groom!! Ross loves to fly fish, so Jen surprised him with a fly in his boutonniere. Very cool! The bride's bouquet is a combination of white mini calla lilies with lily grass loops and white veronica. A lovely mix of classic and contemporary. Congrats to Jen & Ross! We loved the decor that Adam & Stephanie chose for their beautiful wedding at Arden Hills Resort Club & Spa. I absolutely love the bridal bouquet and groom's boutonniere. The colors, wonderful orchids and calla lilies are really something special. The rich darkened jewel tones look amazing. Sympathy Flowers

The subject of funeral flowers or sympathy flowers is very delicate. Flowers are still one of the primary expressions of love and sympathy when someone passes away. It's really OK to look beyond the stereotypical styles and seek out something more modern. Here is an example. The photo on the left is a standard style arrangement. The photo on the right shows a piece in similar materials, same size and price point, with an updated look. When ordering funeral flowers, don't be afraid to ask your florist for something a bit more contemporary.

The Citizen Hotel

We recently had the opportunity to work on a gorgeous event at the Citizen Hotel in Sacramento. The Terrace Room on the seventh floor offers a breathtaking view of the city. Our bride was inspired by the beautiful colors in the peacock feather, using brown and peacock blue as her primary colors. We added deep, rich jewel-toned flowers to finish the look. Welcome to Elizabeth and Lee's wedding! What a great couple. Elizabeth came to me a more than a year before her wedding with clear vision and a level of excitement that just kept growing. Lee proposed to Elizabeth at Disneyland - their favorite place. He gave her a beautiful little Mikey Mouse ring as a "placeholder" until they found the perfect engagement ring for her to wear. Cocktail Party Anyone?

Jessica and Jason decdied to have a great cocktail party reception instead of the traditional dinner reception. It was fabulous! They had a few tables for the guests, but most of the seating was around the dance floor. They brought in gorgeous white sofas and cubes for their guests. A Winchester Wedding for Sarah and Adam

Sarah and Adam were married Saturday afternoon at Winchester Country Club. The bride was beaming. Her gown was amazing. It was a beautiful shade of champagne and her bridesmaids were gorgeous in sage green. The wedding was held on the putting green at Winchester with a crystal clear view of the amazing evergreen foothills. The weather was absolutely perfect. The wind that plagued us this week subsided for Sarah and Adam's wedding. It was sunny and warm. The guests enjoyed cocktails on the patio before the ceremony. I saw Sarah, her bridesmaids and the photographer having a laughter-filled time taking off in the golf carts for photos before the ceremony. Sarah chose hot pink, orange and green for her flowers. Sarah gasped with delight when she saw her bouquet and then gasped again when she saw all of the bridesmaids flowers. The mango calla lilies and hot pink peonies were absolutely amazing. Congratulations Sarah & Adam.

Congratulations to Stephani & Troy

Stephani and Troy were married yesterday on a perfect Spring day. I couldn't be more delighted for this lovely couple. The new Folsom Crossing Bridge opened yesterday which created a traffic nightmare. Poor Troy. He was ready to marry his lady on time, but the traffic created some unavoidable delays. He did his best to let it roll off his back, but honestly, he was just ready to see his bride. The ceremony was at St. John The Baptist Church in Folsom and the reception was held at the spectacular Granite Bay Golf Club. I cannot wait to see the amazing photographs captured by the team at Memory Journalists Photography. I will post the photos as soon as they are available.

Stephani worked very hard on the details for her wedding. Her inspiration was nature's beauty found in the peacock feather. She used rich chocolate browns, yummy latte, wonderful purples and greens. The flowers were lush and rich with a contemporary flare. The bouquets were some of my all-time favorites. Stephani chose deep eggplant calla lilies, burgundy roses and rich green cymbidium orchids for the bouquets. Delicious!! The tables were highly detailed. We added a lot of branches, polished river stone, colored glass gems and candles, candles, candles.

Congratulations Stephani and Troy. I wish you a life time of smiles, laughter, and joy.

Last night the Sacramento Chapter of NACE (National Association of Catering Executives) held its annual awards dinner.

I am honored to announce that I was voted Event Professional of the Year. I am very proud to serve on the Board of Directors of this very prestigious organization. I am humbled and appreciative of this great honor. I thank everyone who was generous enough to vote for me.

The mission of NACE is “To provide catering and event professionals superior education, networking and resources to enhance career success and deliver excellence to clients.”

I strive to live up to the high standards demanded of members of this organization.

Continuing Design Education

Today was inspiring. One of our long time designers, Kelli Souza, and I had the opportunity to go to a wedding and prom design show sponsored by Teleflora. The show was held at one of our excellent local wholesale locations, Flora Fresh.

We are committed to ongoing education every year in an effort to stay on the cutting edge of floral and wedding design trends. We came back absolutely inspired and excited. We have great new ideas to share with our wonderful clients.

By the way, we will be adding new services to our line up, including prom, daily deliveries and funeral work. Weddings and events will always be the hub of our business, but we are excited about being able to offer new service lines to our customers.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Please Help!

Let me tell you about my friend, Jenny Giallanza. A few years ago Jenny decided to change her life in a way that focused on health. With determination and discipline she did just that. Now she is using her newfound health, strength and energy to focus on the health of others. Jenny is about to embark on her second triathlon to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. WOW! What an amazing undertaking! I asked her what motivated her to take on such an extraordinary endeavor. I was so moved by her answer. She told me that if some little child could get up in the morning to go for chemotherapy, then she could get up and workout for an event to raise money to help. I am reaching out to my friends, family, colleagues, and clients to support Jenny in her effort. Any amount will help. Checks should be made out to: The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society. Wedding Season is off and running

January and February are typically quiet my wedding world. Friday, March 6th was our big kick off. We took lots of red roses to our couple, Tony & Suzanne, at Wine & Roses. The weather was gorgeous. Their courtyard ceremony was drenched in candlelight and red rose petals. Following the ceremony the happy couple and their friends had an intmate dinner recepiton in the Cellar Room. The centerpieces were lush red rose centerpieces in black glass. The hurricane candles and candle stands from the ceremony were brought inside to add to the ambience of the celebration. Photos will be posted as soon as they are available.

We wish Tony & Suzanne a lifetime of happiness.

Thanks for visiting my blog. This is my first official post. My name is Katie Edwards. I am a mother, daughter, sister, friend, and floral designer. I suspect I am a few other things as well, but this is a good beginning list.

I am excited about 2009. I have made a conscious decision to focus on the positive aspects of life and the wonderful opportunities that are available to each and every one of us. Yes, there are challenges right now, but this is not the first time we've faced challenges. We all have to choose how we will navigate this time in our life. I choose to seek out the best lessons I can find. I choose to focus on my blessings. I choose not to participate in the negative swirl around me. I understand the difficulties, and I do not minimize them. But, I will not let them define me.

So, to my brides & grooms, I congratulate you! I am thrilled that you have found love, a future and purpose in each other. To my friends and family, thank you for all that you do to make my life so rich. I wish you all a warm, wonderful, loving 2009.
